Isham Jones
Isham Jones led one of the finest dance bands of the 1920s
and wrote many hits, notably "It Had To Be You," "I'll See You In My
Dreams," "Swingin' Down The Lane," and "The One I Love Belongs to
Somebody Else."
One of his band's works from 1917 is among the first songs
to refer to the new music called "jass."
His 1930 recording of "Stardust" is generally
regarded as the first hit version of Hoagy's classic tune.
This 1993 release by Good Music is entitled "Those Were The Days."
The two CD set is a compilation of early recordings. Disc 1
includes the historic performance of 'Stardust' by Isham Jones And His
Orchestra.
